‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the land
People were wondering why nothing would go as was planned
Delay after delay - it just seemed a bad dream
While we waited and waited for the Support at Home scheme
Then after decades of promise, the details were dropped
A new Act, a new program and some were just shocked
It’s not right to cut funding, market forces will fail
In a sector that cares for so many so frail
We had invested big time in a Royal Commission
The research, the thinking - the policy positions!
After so much work and waiting so long
They had dithered and dallied then got it so wrong
And just as we thought the surprises were gone
DOHAC announced yet another huge bomb
Prices would now by providers be set
‘The problem is yours, client grief you can get’
And we’ll pretend we are doing this change to assist
We reckon the detail is gonna be missed
We will cut your funding like we promised on time
The fee hike problem we can then say is not mine!
So we’re sorry this poem brings so little cheer
It is laden with problems and some sensible fear
But what we have learned is you are the right kind of folks
To work through this mess and enjoy a few jokes
So from all at Invox to all the people who care
Merry Christmas from us and go peaceful out there
It’s time to down tools and enjoy a cold beer
And we’ll work it all out when we come back next year

Despite the Minister’s reassurances, Support at Home is sliding toward a “computer says no” assessment model. Here’s what’s emerging and why the sector is uneasy.
